Overview

Position Summary:

Mercury Ignite. Your launchpad to a brighter career. Our summer internship program is a 12-week paid internship designed to allow students to gain practical work experience in the Insurance field. The Social Media Internship is a 12 week paid opportunity to help create, publish, and manage content across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Reddit. They’ll assist with brand campaigns, sponsorships, influencer activations, and community engagement. Ideal candidates are strong writers, creative thinkers, and trend-aware storytellers with basic design or video editing skills and an interest in using AI to make content smarter and more engaging. The program will be highly collaborative and immersive, with interns working on real business problems that can span multiple business units within the complex insurance landscape. But it won’t be all work! Mercury executives will host virtual lunch-and-learns with a small group of interns to discuss career aspirations, interns will get to meet Mercury people leaders and team members throughout the organization, and there will be a multitude of virtual social events.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

 

Content Creation & Deployment

  • Assist in ideating, and producing social content (video, photo, graphic, and copy) that brings our brand to life across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Reddit.
  • Help identify social trends the team can use to create compelling and engaging content around business-specific topics like insurance, home protection, and preparedness. 
  • Support content scheduling and optimization across all social platforms using our suite of tools
  • Campaign & Partnership Support
  • Collaborate on the execution of Mercury’s brand campaigns, sponsorship activations, and influencer partnerships
  • Assist with content tracking, asset management, and performance recaps.
  • Research new creators, social trends, and emerging formats to help Mercury stay ahead of the curve.
  • Community Management
  • Monitor social channels daily to identify trending conversations, engagement opportunities, and audience feedback.
  • Work with our CM partner to grow our response playbook with thoughtful, on-brand responses that strengthen community connections and reinforce Mercury’s reputation as a helpful, trustworthy brand.AI & Innovation
  • Experiment with AI tools to enhance ideation, writing, or creative production workflows.
  • Share insights on how Mercury can continue to use technology to make insurance conversations smarter, faster, and more relevant to today’s audiences.
  • Interns work collaboratively throughout the program and deliver a capstone presentation to leadership upon completion.

 

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Be legally eligible to work in the U.S
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, or a related field.  
  • Able to provide current GPA, as reported by your school. Minimum 3.0 GPA required, 3.5 or higher preferred.
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week, 12-week internship, beginning June 2026.
  • Enrolled student attending a university program with an expected graduation date on or after August 2026
  • Planning to seek full-time employment between December 2026 and September 2027

 

          

Preferred Experience:

  • Also pursing certificates/degrees in digital design, photography, or other related field.
  • Prior internship, freelance, campus agency, or project based social media experience.
  • Solid track recore of academic excellence
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, learning and collaboration

 

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, digital culture, and emerging trends.
  • Possess a creative, detail-oriented mindset and eagerness to learn from a collaborative marketing team.
  • We would also expect some basic experience with design or video editing tools like Canva, CapCut, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Interest in AI and curiosity about how it can shape the future of content creation and brand storytelling.

 

Physical Requirements

Physical Actions: 

Required job duties are essentially sedentary in nature, consisting of occasional walking, standing, lifting and/or carrying ten pounds maximum.
