The VP, Head of Reinsurance develops and executes a variety of strategies focused on optimizing the Company’s capital and profitability through the assessment, design, and implementation of various reinsurance strategies. This leader ensures various reinsurance and risk transfer strategies are cost effective, stable, and built durably with a focus on long-term partnerships.
• In partnership with Product, Finance and Underwriting, lead the development, placement and renewal of all of Company’s reinsurance treaties, bond contracts and related risk transfer opportunities to align with the Company’s various risk, growth and profit objectives.
• Lead the management and development of reinsurer and reinsurance broker relationships, including quota share or other transactions involving reinsurers. Lead the management and development of relationships with other capital providers or entities that support the Company’s reinsurance strategies.
• Lead efforts to gather and leverage insights and intelligence from the reinsurance space that support the Company’s product development, view of risk and understanding of market conditions. Ensure market insights, particularly around treaty structures, are well understood internally to improve decision quality.
• In partnership with Product, lead the evaluation and development of new product opportunities that go beyond current core products. This may include starting new product lines or building new products in partnership with network of reinsurer and reinsurance broker relationships.
• Lead the development of the Company’s reputation in the reinsurance space so that the Company is recognized as transparent, trustworthy, reliable, and ultimately highly regarded amongst its peers.
• In partnership with ERM, ensure the Company’s reinsurance treaties and contracts are reliable in terms of counter-party credit and expected performance.
Education:
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred: Relevant designations or certifications such as ARe or CPCU
Experience:
At least 10 years of experience leading reinsurance program design, analysis, placement and execution on property segments
At least 10 years of experience in leadership and in building relationships with external partners
Skills & Abilities:
• Deep knowledge of P&C and reinsurance markets
• Demonstrated skill in building relationships and trust with reinsurance partners to support their investments in a carrier and the work toward the mutual benefit of both parties.
• Strong analytical and business acumen.
• Strong financial and reinsurance coverage acumen, particularly with reinsurance, structures, contracts, coverages and back-office administration.
• Strong collaboration skills across diverse internal and external teams, including brokers.
• Demonstrated skill in leveraging detail-oriented and big picture thinking approaches when solving problems.
• Highly effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills at the executive level.
