Lead and develop underwriting team members and maintain efficient and adaptive department operations.
State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:
$74,955 to $130,915 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
$68,141 to $119,013 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
$61,327 to $107,112 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
• Monitors work assignment and turnaround time for underwriting team members.
• Assists team members in providing exceptional service to agents and supports sales process to foster profitable growth in book.
• Supervises and develops team members including providing training, performance feedback, conducting disciplinary actions, ensuring team member communications, and monitoring work product. Leverages own experience in UW specialties to develop appropriate specialty skills for Sr. UWs and UWs. Keeps updated on underwriting developments, products and changes within the Company, and educates team members.
• Represents and supports underwriting policies and objectives of the Company to underwriters, policyholders, marketing personnel and agents.
• Provides technical direction to underwriting staff regarding application, endorsement and renewal processing, verification of application data, special handling and additional information needed to underwrite policies.
• Assists management with development of basic objectives, procedures and operations of the branch; analyzes operating results relative to established guidelines, and takes appropriate action to improve performance, productivity and profitability.
• Other duties as assigned by Leader.
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Completion of coursework leading to CPCU professional designation preferred
Experience:
• Minimum 5 years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge and Skills:
• Analytical ability to evaluate new and existing personal lines applications/policies and recommend actions based on risk factors, acceptability, and potential exposure to the Company.
• Requires regular exercise of independent judgment to make complex decisions beyond the scope of established guidelines and parameters of underwriting, having a significant impact on the Company in terms of costs, revenue, and team member, customer and agent relations.
• Extensive knowledge of established Company policies and procedures and underwriting operations, and the ability to apply such knowledge in an administrative/supervisory capacity.
• Work is of high technical complexity, calling for in-depth knowledge and expertise of personal lines underwriting standards, philosophy and practices to authorize various policy actions within established limit of authority.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Communicates professionally at all levels internally and externally
• Developed at least one specialized focus on risk selection and underwriting. This may include but is not limited to: Catastrophe underwriting, high-value accounts, emerging trends such as cyber and IoT, underwriting models, rules and automation, sales channel expertise, including both direct and agency, and advanced agency management.
Must be able to align with standard work hours Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm CST or EST
