Overview

Position Summary:

As a Data Governance Steward you will assist in the implementation and operation of the company’s Enterprise Data Governance Program. You will be responsible for the assets of a defined data subject area and work to maintain metadata for the subject area. This position collaborates with other departments to ensure data consistency and quality throughout the organization and partners with business and technical subject matter experts to maintain standardization of metadata through best practices.

 

Geo-Salary Information

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$83,394.77 to $154, 017.38  (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$75,813.00 to $140,015.79(NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$68,232.09 to $126,014.21  (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain relationship and collaborate with assigned business unit data owners and subject matter experts
  • Execute on the vision, roadmap, and data lifecycle for the data subject areas over which the role is responsible
  • Create and maintain data quality monitoring to ensure data accuracy, completeness and consistency.
  • Help establish and develop the Data Steward capability in the assigned subject area
  • Partner with data architects and business SMEs to maintain the Business Glossaries, Data Dictionaries, Data Lineage, and Report Catalogs in the Atlan for the assigned subject area
  • Help coordinate and manage the work queue in the Reltio Master Data Management tool, to ensure high quality identity resolution for enterprise data
  • Embody data standards and best practices that fulfill enterprise data policies
  • Assist in providing reporting and metric measurement to the Data Governance Council and business partners
  • Lead incident resolution and problem management for data issues in the assigned subject area
  • Participate in projects and ongoing activities to support Enterprise Data Governance objectives
  • Demonstrate Mercury's core values

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or other quantitative discipline with a focus on data usage and critical thinking is required

Experience:

  • Two (2)+ years working in data-related fields
  • Two (2)+ years working in Data Governance or Data Stewardship roles
  • Experience with data visualization software helpful (Power BI, R/Python, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience working in a centralized data governance/ quality team helpful
  • Experience writing complex SQL for data analysis, validation and DQ monitoring.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years experience with data observability highly desired  
  • Understanding of Data Quality principles, with hands-on experience setting up data quality monitoring using tools such as Great Expectations, dbt, Monte Carlo, and others.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis and assessment using SQL
    Experience of data modeling and/ or working in DBT

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with all things data including data stewardship, data quality, data models, SQL. Cloud data (AWS Redshift preferred)
  • Data Catalog tool experience beneficial (Atlan/ Alation etc.)
  • Knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance beneficial
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Experience with data profiling, and developing data quality validations
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form, with technical and non-technical staff
  • Detail oriented and well-organized
  • Ability to routinely interact with multiple levels of the organization including the executive level
  • Ability to work with the data warehouse users, IT Business Analysts, and developers

USD $85,479.00 - USD $157,868.00 /Yr.
