Mercury Ignite – Your launchpad to a brighter career. Our summer internship program is a 12-week paid internship designed to allow students to gain practical work experience in the technology field.

The Mercury Technology Solutions team (MTS) is a technology team focused on driving business growth while providing top quality customer and agent experience.  Below are the groups that make up MTS and the disciplines where our internships are offered:

 

Application Engineering – Focuses on development and maintenance of all internal and external facing systems. 

 

Technical Product Management – Focuses on identifying user needs, quantifying value, and documenting requirements.  Works with engineering to deliver functionality. 

 

Enterprise Architecture – Focuses on the business architecture, data architecture, application architecture, technology architecture and the interoperability of these different systems while also establishing rules, policies and standards across the organization.

 

Information Security – Focuses on protecting and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Mercury’s information assets in alignment with Mercury’s business objectives.

 

Site Reliability Engineering – Focuses on development by combining software engineering and systems engineering to build scalable and reliable systems.

 

IT Infrastructure Operations & Services – Focuses on providing valuable outcomes through appropriate and standardized technology while providing accurate and cost-effective lifecycle support of all IT assets, both software and hardware.

 

Operational Effectiveness – Focuses on the planning and administration of IT portfolios using best practices, ensuring transparency and accountability while efficiently satisfying business objectives.  

 

Position Summary:

We are seeking curious, passionate, and hard-working students from quantitative academic fields to participate in our fully remote summer internship program. The program will be highly collaborative and immersive, with interns working on real business problems that can span multiple business units within the complex insurance landscape.

 

But it won’t be all work! Mercury executives will host virtual lunch-and-learns with a small group of interns to discuss career aspirations, interns will get to meet Mercury people leaders and team members throughout the organization, and there will be a multitude of virtual social events.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: 

Interns will work with their managers and fellow interns within an interactive Agile framework that includes daily stand-ups and weekly tactical problem-solving sessions. Interns will also attend the broader meetings within their respective functions to help further contextualize their work. Over the course of the summer, interns will ultimately build a minimum viable product (MVP) and have a “capstone” opportunity to present those findings to the Mercury leadership team. Internships will begin in June 2025

  • 12-week remote summer internship
  • 40-hour work week
  • Paid Internship: $30 per hour
  • Future full-time opportunities may be available for high performers

 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Pursuing a Bachelors (BS/BA) or Masters (MS/MA) degree in an information technology field
  • Able to provide current GPA, as reported by your school. Minimum 3.0 GPA required, 3.5 or higher GPA preferred.
  • Enrolled student attending a university program with an expected graduation date on or after August 2024
  • Planning to seek full-time employment between December 2025 and September 2026

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze data to address and solve business problems
  • Willingness to independently learn and make an impact within a team environment
  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, experience building dashboards
  • Preferred but not required: experience with SQL and Git/GitHub/GitLab

Physical Requirements

Physical Actions 

Required job duties are essentially sedentary in nature, consisting of occasional walking, standing, lifting and/or carrying ten pounds maximum.
