Overview

Position Summary:

 

The Leave of Absence (LOA) and Workers' Compensation Manager is responsible for managing the team and administration of the Mercury’s leave of absence programs and workers' compensation claims. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FMLA, ADA, and workers' compensation laws, while providing support to team members and leaders throughout the process. The Manager will coordinate with internal teams and external partners to manage claims, ensure proper documentation, and facilitate timely return-to-work programs.

 

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$89,906.08 to $162,156.50 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$81,732.80 to $147,415.00 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$73,559.52 to $132,673.50 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

 

Leave of Absence (LOA) Management:

• Administer all team member leave programs, including FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, parental leave, and ADA accommodations.

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state leave laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA) and company policies.

• Track leave requests and approvals, maintain accurate records, and monitor leave balances and return-to-work dates.

•Communicate with employees, managers, and HR partners to provide updates and guidance on the leave process, eligibility, and return-to-work procedures.

 

Workers' Compensation Management:

• Oversee the workers' compensation claims process, working closely with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and internal teams.

• Ensure timely filing of claims and proper documentation for all workplace injuries or illnesses.

• Coordinate with safety, legal, and medical professionals to support the injured team member's recovery and return-to-work efforts.

• Monitor claim status and costs, identify trends, and provide recommendations for reducing claims frequency and improving workplace safety.

•Develop and implement return-to-work programs, including modified duty arrangements and accommodations where needed.

 

Compliance & Documentation:

• Ensure all LOA and workers' compensation practices are in full compliance with relevant laws, including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and state-specific workers' compensation statutes.

• Maintain confidential records of all LOA and workers' compensation cases.

• Regularly audit leave and workers' compensation practices to ensure compliance and make recommendations for process improvements.

 

Collaboration & Communication:

• Serve as a liaison between HC, legal, payroll, and management teams to ensure consistent and fair handling of all LOA and workers' compensation claims.

• Partner with benefits and payroll teams to ensure accurate payment and benefits continuation during leave or workers' compensation periods.

• Provide training and guidance to supervisors and HR staff on LOA and workers' compensation processes and regulations.

 

Reporting & Analytics:

• Generate and analyze reports on leave and workers' compensation trends, usage, costs, and compliance.

•Provide actionable insights to management for reducing absenteeism, improving the return-to-work process, and mitigating workers' compensation risks.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.

 

Experience:

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience managing leave of absence programs and workers' compensation claims, preferably in a multi-state or corporate environment.

 

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to apply general knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.

• Strong organization skills and constant attention to detail for functions such as processing, recording and maintaining confidential information.

• Ability to keep strict confidentiality with regard to personnel matters, documentation, and files.

• Written and verbal communication skills to effectively assist various levels of employees and management, to edit and proofread correspondence, and to effectively respond to general questions with professionalism.  

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships and assist employees and management.

• Proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet maintenance.  

• Ability to produce high-quality work that is accurate, complete and properly formatted while ensuring that a high degree of confidentiality is maintained. 

• Experience with Human Resources systems and Internet communications preferred. 

• Ability to analyze moderately complex administrative details, such as calculating, compiling and preparing data for management reports.  

• Requires the occasional exercise of independent judgment with respect to issues, which may have a significant impact on the Company in areas such as costs, employee relations and legal complications.

Pay Range

USD $89,906.00 - USD $162,157.00 /Yr.
