State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$173,301 to $377,586 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$157,546 to $306,896 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$141,792 to $276,207 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

 

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Technical Product Management to lead our digital initiatives in the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance space. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in P&C insurance. This role requires a strategic thinker who can bridge the gap between insurance operations and technology, driving innovation and efficiency across our technical product portfolio.

 

 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

 

Product Strategy and Management

  • Develop and execute the product strategy for our digital insurance platforms, focusing on policy administration, underwriting, rating, and go-to-market solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities for technological improvement.
  • Validate opportunities through research and experimentations and quantify value to match effort to value.  

User-Centric Innovation

  • Conduct independent research with employees, agents, customers, and software vendors to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices.
  • Work in tandem with Design Research and UX Design teams to identify areas for product improvement and innovation.
  • Translate user needs and business requirements into product features and enhancements.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of technical product managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Upskill the existing team in key areas such as:
    • Agile and Lean product development methodologies
    • Creating product vision and strategy
    • Roadmap planning
    • Data-driven decision making and experimentation
    • User story mapping and prioritization techniques
    • Product discovery and validation practices
    • OKR (Objectives and Key Results) framework
    • Design thinking and user-centered design principles

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align product strategy with overall business objectives.
  • Communicate product vision, roadmap, and progress to various stakeholders, including executive leadership, technology teams, and business units.
  • Build strong relationships with key partners in insurance operations, go-to-market, and technology.

Technology and Industry Expertise

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and their potential applications in P&C insurance.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and platforms that can enhance our technical  product offerings.
  • Provide thought leadership on how technology can streamline insurance product development, underwriting, servicing, claims, and go-to-market processes.

 

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years focused on P&C insurance technology.

Preferred:

  • 4 or more years of experienced with Policy administration systems including billing and rating
  • Experience with commercial and personal lines
  • Experience with major system transformations 
  • Experience with new product introductions (NPI)

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Skilled at strategic thinking and vision setting
  • Experience in user-centric product development practices and Design Thinking
  • Technical acumen and deep understanding of P&C insurance operations
  • Adaptability and innovation in a rapidly changing industry
  • Proven experience with insurance software platforms such as Policy Administration, Rating, Product Configuration, Agency Integrations, Distribution Management, etc.
  • Strong understanding of the Agency business model used in the P&C insurance space.
  • Experience building products from scratch.
  • Strong track record of successfully managing technical products in the insurance industry.
  • Experience in leading and developing product management teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex insurance concepts into user-friendly technical solutions.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and product management tools.
