State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$173,301 to $377,586 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$157,546 to $306,896 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$141,792 to $276,207 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

 

Position Summary:

The Director of UX Design will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience strategy for the digital products we use to serve our customers, agents, and employees. This visionary leader will manage a dedicated team of designers, driving innovation and excellence in our UX design efforts. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of user-centered design principles, a proven track record in leading design teams, and a passion for leveraging user insights and research to inform design decisions.

 

The ideal candidate will be capable of elevating design principles across the organization, seamlessly integrating within modern product development structures, and driving both the optimization of existing experiences and the creation of innovative new experiences. 

 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Leadership and Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive UX design strategy aligned with the company's vision and business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of talented UX professionals
  • Introduce and champion Design Thinking as a new way of approaching problems and solutions across the organization, fostering a culture of user-centric innovation.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve UX design processes and methodologies.

Design Excellence and Consistency

  • Oversee the end-to-end UX design process, from research and ideation to prototyping, testing, and final implementation.
  • Ensure all design solutions are user-centric, data-driven, and meet high standards of usability, accessibility, and visual design.
  • Establish design systems and guidelines to ensure consistent and cohesive designs are delivered by both onshore and offshore design teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create a unified user experience across all touchpoints.

User Research and Insights

  • Establish and lead design research initiatives, introducing and championing this practice as a new approach within the organization.
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions and measure the effectiveness of design solutions.
  • Enable the team to present discoveries to key stakeholders, both internal and external, to drive meaningful insights from user experience research.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define and prioritize UX requirements.
  • Communicate design concepts and rationale effectively to stakeholders at all

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant UX, product, and general leadership experience, preferably in the P&C insurance or related financial services industries.
  • Experience working on complex application designs
  • 3+ years of experience as a people leader.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep understanding of and expertise in User Experience Research and Design methodologies, including Design Thinking practices.
  • Proven ability to introduce and champion new design methodologies and practices within an organization.
  • Experience in managing and ensuring design consistency between onshore and offshore design teams.
  • Strong business acumen, including understanding how UX contributes to the overall business goals and P&L.
  • Demonstrated experience managing distributed teams across multiple product areas.
  • Proficiency in working within OKR/Goalsetting frameworks and developing UX roadmaps.
  • Excellent executive presentation, storytelling, and influencing skills to engage senior leaders across departments.
  • Ability to flex into UX work execution as needed.
  • Experience with vendor management and budget administration.
