State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:
 

$83,395 to $154,017 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
 

$75,813 to $140,016 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
 

$68,232 to $126,014 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
 

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
 

Position Summary:
 

The Growth Data Scientist will play a critical role in driving data-driven decision-making across Customer Experience (CX), Marketing, and Sales teams at Mercury Insurance. This position involves working on analytical projects that identify growth opportunities, optimize customer interactions, and enhance marketing and sales effectiveness. The ideal candidate will possess strong data and programming skills, applying advanced statistical models and machine learning techniques to address complex business challenges. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data analysts, and product leaders, is essential to successfully execute business initiatives and deliver actionable insights.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaboration with Business Units: Work closely with CX, Marketing, and Sales departments to understand their business processes, identify data-driven growth opportunities, and develop strategies that enhance customer engagement, marketing effectiveness, and sales performance.

  • Advanced Analytics: Leverage relevant data sources to conduct sophisticated analyses using statistical and machine learning algorithms. Translate business questions into analytical problems and independently execute projects with guidance from senior data scientists and management.

  • Automation and Process Improvement: Support the development and implementation of automated processes to enhance operational efficiency in CX, Marketing, and Sales. Identify areas for improvement and contribute to cost reduction and process optimization initiatives.

  • The team member will identify and use relevant data sources to conduct project work and ad-hoc analyses using statistical and machine learning algorithms. The team member will work independently with some guidance from senior data scientists and management. The team member will communicate and collaborate with colleagues and managers regarding analysis needs and results. The team member will provide data support on projects and work with business on implementation. The team member will create and maintain monitoring procedures and reports for projects and look for ways to improve accuracy and efficiency.  

  • Data Management and Preparation: Extract, transform, and load large volumes of structured and unstructured data from diverse sources, ensuring data integrity and quality. Optimize data retrieval methods and streamline processes for efficiency. Review data for quality and consistency and optimize data retrieval methods when needed.

  •  Reporting and Visualization: Create and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to customer experience, marketing campaigns, and sales strategies. Ensure data is presented in a clear and actionable manner.

  •  Cross-Functional Communication: Regularly engage with engineering, product and management to expand knowledge of business processes and KPIs. Use this knowledge to refine analyses and recommendations.

  • Presentations and Insights: Prepare and present data-driven insights and recommendations to stakeholders, summarizing identified problems, potential solutions, and growth opportunities. Demonstrate proficiency in creating compelling visualizations and delivering presentations. 

  • Regular attendance at work on a full-time schedule of at least 8 hours and 40 hours per week 
  • Other functions may be assigned 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • A Master’s degree or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) designation is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in data mining and statistical analysis.
  • At least 2 years of experience with SQL and statistical software packages such as Python, R, or SAS.
  • Experience in insurance or financial services is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in data mining, machine learning, programming, and optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data and analytics environments, particularly in support of CX, Marketing, and Sales initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort with ambiguity, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to think conceptually, analytically, and creatively to develop innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, and other programming languages for data analysis and model development.
  • Strong ability to work with large structured and unstructured data sources, including experience with predictive modeling and validation procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a strong focus on delivering business impact.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex analyses and recommendations.
